Cliff Pennington has successful thumb surgery

Diamondbacks shortstop Cliff Pennington underwent successful surgery to repair a torn ligament in his thumb, the team announced.

Pennington will be out until at least August, as the team added that he'll be able to resume baseball activity in eight to 10 weeks. He has hit .257/.342/.343 in 70 at-bats.
