Cubs reliever James Russell has been outrighted to Triple-A Iowa after being designated for assignment Tuesday, MLB.com has reported.
Russell suffered through a miserable stretch in August, sending his ERA soaring from 2.70 to 5.29. He allowed 12 runs in 7 1/3 innings during that time.
