White Sox closer David Robertson entered in the eighth inning, attempting to get a four-out save. He only managed to retire one batter.
After stranding a runner in scoring position to end the eighth, Robertson gave up three straight hits in the ninth to wipe out a two-run lead. In nine pitches in the ninth inning, Robertson served up a single, double, and walk-off three-run homer.
"We needed this win. I blew the win tonight and I have to live with it," said Robertson, per MLB.com
It was Robertson's first blown save since May 10, snapping a string of four straight opportunities converted.
He lost for the first time since September 14 of last year, snapping a five game winning streak and dropping to 3-1 on the year.
"It's a tough position. Closers are not for the faint of heart," manager Robin Ventura said. "He's been doing it a long time. He'll be able to bounce back. This proves the guy's human, but he's been great for us.
