Reds catcher Devin Mesoraco has settled his appeal of a three-game suspension had it reduced to two games. He will begin serving the suspension Tuesday night against the Phillies, the Reds have announced.
The Reds have recalled catcher Dioner Navarro from Triple-A Louisville and optioned relief pitcher Logan Ondrusek to Louisville in the wake of the suspension. Navarro will serve as the temporary backup to Ryan Hanigan behind the plate.
Major League Baseball announced a three-game suspension and undisclosed fine for Mesoraco due to his actions on July 31 against home-plate umpire Chad Fairchild. Here's the incident:
Mesoraco, 24, is hitting .210/.287/.352 with five homers, 14 RBI and 16 runs in 52 games this season for the first-place Reds.
