The Dodgers have placed Andre Ethier on the 15-day disabled list, retroactive to June 28, the club announced Wednesday. Ethier has been sidelined with a left oblique injury and was listed as day-to-day for a bit. This move shelves him until after the All-Star break.
As a corresponding move, the Dodgers have reinstated second baseman Mark Ellis.
Ethier, 30, is hitting .291/.357/.491 with 10 homers, 55 RBI, 36 runs and 23 doubles this season. He and Matt Kemp had been carrying the Dodgers' offense when they had the best record in baseball. Now both Kemp and Ethier are on the DL and the Dodgers have lost 12 of their last 15.
On the bright side, though, Kemp collected two hits in a rehab game Tuesday (latimes.com), so it's possible the Dodgers get both back rather quickly after the All-Star break.
Meanwhile, let us not forget Ellis. Back in May, he suffered an injury that nearly resulted in him losing his left leg. So his return is a feel-good moment. The 34 year old is hitting .273/.373/.364 with 27 runs scored in 37 games for the Dodgers this season.
