Yankees third baseman Eric Chavez has been placed on the 7-day concussion disabled list, effective immediately, after a scary head injury Wednesday night. He was injured in the field and stayed in the game, but during an at-bat he appeared woozy and confused, so he was removed from the game and taken to the hospital.
As a corresponding move, the Yankees have recalled Jayson Nix.
Chavez, 34, has been a valuable bat off the bench or as an occasional starter for the Yankees this season. He's hitting .290/.303/.581 with three homers and five RBI in 33 plate appearances.
Nix, 29, is hitting .233/.314/.367 in Triple-A. Last season, for the Blue Jays, he hit .169/.245/.309 with four homers in 151 plate appearances.
