Yankees pitcher Esmil Rogers tossed 4 2/3 innings and was pegged with the loss Friday night against Boston in 19 innings.
Rogers allowed Xander Bogaerts to score the game-winning run on a Mookie Betts sacrificy fly in the top of the inning. He was charged with three runs -- two earned -- on six hits and one walk while striking out four in 6-5 defeat.
Rogers, who threw 81 pitches after 35 on Thursday, told reporters he would have returned for another inning had the Yankees tied the game in the bottom of the frame.
"If we had tied the game right there, I was going to be back," Rogers said, per the Journal News. "I was going to give us the opportunity to win the game. That's why I'm here, to give us that opportunity."
