A day after things got chippy between the Royals and Athletics, it picked right back up where it left off. Royals pitcher Kelvin Herrera threw at Brett Lawrie in the eighth and was immediately ejected from the game.
Lawrie was also hit Saturday by starter Yordano Ventura after Josh Reddick cracked a three-run home run off of him. After Herrera threw behind Lawrie, the umpires formed a line between the two teams to keep them from starting a brawl.
Royals bench coach Don Wakamatsu, and shortstop Alcides Escobar and Herrera were all ejected from the game after the exchange, with no Athletics being tossed.
Royals manager Ned Yost and pitching coach Dave Eiland were ejected in the first inning of the game when Athletics starter Scott Kazmir hit Lorenzo Cain with a pitch, but was only given a warning. Yost and Eiland argued with the home plate umpire and was eventually tossed.
Lawrie drew the two bean balls from Kansas City after a controversial slide into second Friday when he went in with his spikes up, trying to take out Escobar at second. Escobar felt the slide was dirty and Lawrie intended to hurt him.
Despite all the bean balls and ejections, the Royals hung on to win the game 4-2.
