ARLINGTON, Tex. -- Down one catcher with Chris Iannetta out for up to two months following wrist surgery, the Angels for the foreseeable future have one option, Bobby Wilson, and have recalled John Hester from Triple-A Salt Lake to back him up.

The injury is a blow to a club that acquired Iannetta over the winter from Colorado. Though, like much of the rest of the club, he was mired in a slump, hitting .197 with three homers, nine RBI and a .312 on-base percentage.

"It could have been worse," Angels manager Mike Scioscia said before the opener of a series here Friday. "It's a big loss, but we're going to get him back for the lion's share of the season.

"He's an important guy."

Iannetta had surgery Thursday to remove a small bone from his right wrist. He is expected to be out somewhere between six and eight weeks. He suffered the injury when he was hit with a pitch while batting during Jered Weaver's no-hitter on May 2.

Wilson was behind the plate for a third consecutive game as C.J. Wilson started against his old team here Friday night.
