The Carlos Santana experiment appears to be over. His stint as the second hitter in the lineup, which began on May 21, was not a success. He is batting cleanup Monday against the Cubs in the Windy City.
All was well when he lifted his batting average from .213 to .236 in early June, but he has fallen into a deep slump with just four hits in his last 33 at-bats.
The Indians liked him in the second hole because of his propensity to at least reach base via the walk, but his on-base percentage has fallen 24 points in the last eight games.
