The Indians have activated designated hitter Travis Hafner from the paternity list and optioned Vinny Rottino to Triple-A Columbus, tweeted MLB.com's Jordan Bastian.

  • Hafner's batting .230/.350/.434 on the season, with 10 home runs and 29 RBI.

  • Hafner's considered a potential August trade candidate and is making $13 million this season. There's a club option on his deal for 2013 worth $13 million ($2.75 million buyout).

  • The Indians have lost seven in a row, and eight of their last nine, heading into Saturday night's action in Detroit. They're 8.5 games behind Chicago in the American League Central division, and 6.5 games back in the wild-card race. The Indians' minus-83 run differential is the worst in the AL.

  • Rottino was claimed by the Indians off waivers at the end of June and played two games with Cleveland while Hafner was away. He went hitless in five at-bats.
