Cardinals first baseman Allen Craig woke up Wednesday with chest pain near his ribs, and that's why he's out of the lineup Wednesday night, wrote the St. Louis Post Dispatch's Derrick Goold. According to Cardinals general manager John Mozeliak, the injury occurred shortly after the All-Star break, but Craig shouldn't miss too much time, as X-rays didn't show any structural damage. Expect Craig -- batting an impressive .298/.362/.573, with 17 home runs and 58 RBI -- back in the lineup on Thursday.

In other Cardinals injury news, Rafael Furcal has been dealing with a sore back for a few weeks, and received an injection to lower inflammation in the area. Furcal isn't in the lineup Wednesday night; consider him day-to-day.

Finally, Lance Berkman, while rehabbing his injured right knee, has experienced pain in his left knee, tweeted FOXSportsMidwest.com's B.J. Rains. There's no word yet on the severity of the latest injury. Mozeliak stressed patience in dealing with Berkman's rehab, while manager Mike Matheny said, "That guy can't catch a break."
