Besides the very bad news for Feliz departed his Tuesday start with shoulder discomfort, and, as Evan Grant of the Dallas Morning News reports, it's not certain whether he'll be able to throw from a mound on Saturday, as originally planned. As well, Feliz may not make his next scheduled appearance on Monday. These setbacks mean his opening-day status is now in doubt. "We are going to be smart," said pitching coach Mike Maddux. "We're in this for the long haul."
The Rangers are hoping Feliz will make his regular-season debut on April 10, but they want him to be able to work at least six innings. Presently, his longest outing of the spring is three innings, so he needs at least another two starts to get stretched out.
