Mets outfielder Jason Bay suffered a scary head injury on Friday night against the Reds. In the second inning, Bay crashed into the wall in pursuit of a Jay Bruce fly ball. By the time Bay gathered himself and threw the ball back in, Bruce had notched an inside-the-park home run. Bay was then attended to and escorted off the field in an unsteady fashion.

In late July of 2010, Bay suffered a concussion that eventually caused him to miss 63 games. Given that history and the apparent impact of his Friday collision, at the very least a trip to the seven-day concussion DL seems likely. This season, Bay has already missed 40 games with a rib fracture.
On the season, Bay is hitting .187/.253/.373. Here's hoping his injury turns out to be much less serious than it looked.
