Peralta's glove |
Well, I didn't head into the day thinking I'd write about someone calling someone else a "weird wuss," but you just gotta roll with the punches sometimes.
Rays reliever Joel Peralta's ejection for a "foreign substance" on his glove -- which turned out to be pine tar -- Tuesday night has been a hot topic Wednesday. The specific storyline drawing much attention is that the Nationals bench gave the umpires a "tip" about Peralta's glove. Peralta played for the Nats in 2010. So there's a bit of a back and forth, including Rays manager Joe Maddon saying the move was, well, a word that could come before willow or cat.
So, naturally, it's Nationals manager Davey Johnson's turn to respond. Take it away, Nats beat reporter ...
Davey on Maddon: " I don't know him that well, but I thought he was a weird wuss anyways."

OK, then. Weird wuss it is. Ball back in Maddon's court, or does he stand pat with the more profane term? I think I'd hang with it, personally.
The Nationals and Rays play again Wednesday night at 7:05 p.m. ET.
Update: Alright, I'm calling this a TKO in favor of Maddon now. Johnson had made a comment about Maddon being on Twitter -- only he said he "has a Tweeter." (Washington Times). And here comes the one-liner of the entire exchange:
Maddon on Davey's comment about his "Tweeter" account: "Most men have Tweeters. And I would never use my Tweeter to an unfair advantage."
