Rays manager Kevin Cash remains hopeful that starting pitcher Drew Smyly (labrum) will return at some point this season, reports the Tampa Tribune.
“We’re optimistic," Cash said.
Smyly was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday because of a torn labrum.
Cash added that Smyly will meet Thursday with the training staff and formulate a plan that will include rest and rehabilitation but not surgery.
Smyly started three games for the Rays this season, going 0-1 with a 2.70 ERA.
