The team called up Carlos Peguero to replace Carp. Peguero was already in Japan as part of the team's travel roster.
Meanwhile, to fill in Carp's spot in the lineup Thursday, the Mariners moved Chone Figgins to left and Kyle Seager took over Figgins' spot at third. Casper Wells could also play more in left field against lefties, but with right-handed Bartolo Colon on the mound, he stayed on the bench.
Carp made a leaping catch to rob Josh Reddick in the ninth inning, helping to keep the score tied. He went 0 for 4 at the plate.
With a week off after Thursday's game, Carp could miss as few as six games if he returns in 15 days.
