New York Mets manager Terry Collins revealed that Jordany Valdespin will play second base during winter ball in the Dominican Republic, according to ESPNNewYork.com's Adam Rubin.
Valdespin has started just five games at second base for the Mets this season, playing 15 games at the position overall. He spent most of his time with the major-league club in the outfield (38 games, 26 starts) and as a pinch hitter, but also made four appearances at shortstop.
Valdespin has hit .241/.286/.422 with eight home runs and 10 stolen bases in 187 plate appearances with the Mets this year. He also hit .285/.331/.411 with five home runs and 10 stolen bases in 163 Triple-A plate appearances.
Daniel Murphy is expected to remain the team's regular second baseman next season.
