In a slightly less high-profile case than the Mets' appeal on R.A. Dickey's behalf, Major League Baseball upheld an official scorer's decision on a Johnny Damon error on Monday.
Reds second baseman Brandon Phillips asked that the league review the play that was ruled a double with a two-base error on Damon instead of an inside-the-park home run.
Damon ran into the wall at Progressive Field before the ball went through his legs and to the wall. Phillips scored on the play.
On Tuesday, Phillips told reporters (via the Cincinnati Enquirer) that teammates and coaches told him to appeal the scoring decision.
"I think somebody told them to contact my agent and try to appeal it," he said. "Hopefully it can go my way. It'd be nice to have an in-the-park home run. If not, I'll just take the hit."
