Bryce Harper is still being held out of games with a strained left calf, but he hopes to return to the field on Tuesday.
Harper is lobbying his manager, Davey Johnson, to return to the lineup as soon as Tuesday, but Johnson is waiting until he's sure Harper is complete healthy before putting him in the lineup.
"He still had a little discomfort in there, probably more than me," Johnson told reporters (via the Washington Post). "But he says he's ready. I told him, 'When you have a full workout and you can run around and there's no pain in there, they'll run you out there.'"
In other injury news from Monday:
• Red Sox left fielder Carl Crawford began throwing again on Monday after a week off with a sore left wrist. The team hopes he can start swinging the bat last this week. [Boston Globe]
• Yankees reliever David Robertson arrived at Yankees camp on Monday without the protective boot he'd be wearing for the last three days and said he expects to be ready for opening day. Robertson hurt his foot last week when he fell down stairs at his rental house. He played catch on Monday and said he felt fine. [New York Times]
• With Chris Carpenter's status for opening day in doubt, the Cardinals have decided to stretch right-hander Lance Lynn out as an insurance policy if Carpenter can't go. Lynn, 24, started two games for the Cardinals last season, going 1-1 with a 3.12 ERA in 18 appearances. Both of his decisions came as a starter, with him giving up six earned runs in 10 1/3 innings. All but one of those runs came in his big-league debut, a loss to the Giants. He allowed just one run in five innings in his other start, a victory against the Astros. He was exclusively a starter the last two seasons in Triple-A. [MLB.com]
• Dodgers outfielder Andre Ethier returned to the team's lineup on Monday after missing two games with mid-back stiffness. Ethier played five innings, all in right field, and went 1 for 3 with a double. [MLB.com]
• The Marlins' Gregg Dobbs was scratched from Monday's lineup with discomfort in his left hamstring. Outfielders Logan Morrison (knee) and Giancarlo Stanton (wrist) are improving, but not expected to play on Tuesday. [Palm Beach Post]
• Rockies third baseman Casey Blake missed Monday's game with a stiff neck. Troy Renck of the Denver Post reports the injury is not related to the injury that forced him to undergoing neck surgery in September.
• A scary situation was averted for the Royals as first baseman Eric Hosmer and third baseman Mike Moustakas left Monday's game with injury on consecutive plays in the fifth inning. Both checked out OK. Hosmer's right shoulder was OK after diving for a ball to end the top of the fifth, while Moustakas suffered a bruised knee when he was hit by Santiago Casilla leading off the bottom of the fifth. Hosmer was cleared to play Tuesday, Moustakas is listed as day-to-day. [MLB.com]
• Diamondbacks left-hander Joe Saunders left Monday's game after he was hit in the shin by a comebacker in the first inning, but said he didn't think the injury would be enough to keep him from his next start. [MLB.com]
• Twins outfielder Denard Span missed another game Monday with neck stiffness. Span saw a chiropractor on Monday and hoped to be ready to play Tuesday. [MLB.com]
• Red Sox outfielder Ryan Sweeney left Monday's game with the Marlins after suffering a left quad strain. [MLB.com]
