Welcome to the Morning Roundup. This will be one of our daily features where we'll recap the news and notes from the previous night.
- According to CBSSports.com's Jon Heyman, the Phillies have placed Cole Hamels on the trading block. In return, they are hoping to receive three prospects. Heyman also mentions Shane Victorino could end up on the block since he's also set to be a free agent at season's end.
- Carlos Lee will not be going to the Dodgers. While the Dodgers pulled out of the deal, sources told ESPN's Buster Olney that Lee would not have accepted a trade to the Dodgers. Right-handed pitcher Garrett Gould was rumored to be the player sent to the Astros for Lee.
- The Blue Jays have signed top international prospect Franklin Barreto. Barreto, a 16-year-old shortstop from Venezuela, is expected to sign for about $2 million. Baseball America's Ben Badler compares Barreto to Rafael Furcal or Victorino, depending on whether Barreto can stay at short.
