The Baltimore Orioles announced Tuesday that they claimed first baseman/outfielder Russ Canzler off waivers from the Yankees.
If this sounds familiar, it's because Canzler has been claimed off waivers four times this offseason. He went from the Indians to the Blue Jays on Dec. 21 of last year, then back to the Indians on Jan. 2, then to the Yankees on Jan. 4.
Canzler hit .269/.299/.398 with three home runs in 97 plate appearances for the Indians in 2012. He spent most of the season at Triple-A Columbus, where he hit .265/.328/.487 with 22 home runs in 539 plate appearances.
To make room for Canzler, the Orioles designated catcher Luis Martinez for assigment.
