Baltimore was busy Saturday afternoon, designating left-handed pitcher Dana Eveland for assignment, outrighting catcher Ronny Paulino to Triple-A Norfolk, activating catcher Taylor Teagarden from the 60-day DL, and calling up pitcher Miguel Socolovich from Triple-A Norfolk.
Eveland appeared in 14 games for the Orioles, two of them starts, and leaves Baltimore with a 4.73 ERA and 1.39 WHIP. Eveland's appearance on Friday night against Detroit didn't go well; he pitched 0.2 innings and gave up three runs on three hits.
Paulino was batting .254/.266/.302 in 20 games and 63 at-bats. He cleared waivers, and has three days to choose whether to report to Norfolk or become a free agent.
Teagarden has yet to play this season, thanks to back issues.
Socolovich, an international free agent signed by the Red Sox in 2004, comes to Baltimore with a sparkling 1.77 ERA in 24 games and 45.2 innings with Triple-A Norfolk. His 9.85 strikeout rate and 4.55 K/BB rate are worth getting excited about.
