New Orioles general manager Dan Duquette is shopping relief pitcher Kevin Gregg and third baseman Mark Reynolds on the trade market, reports CBSSports.com Danny Knobler.
Reynolds, 28, hit .221/.323/.483 with 37 homers, 86 RBI and 84 runs last season for the Orioles, his first away from the Diamondbacks. He's led the league in strikeouts four consecutive seasons and is an absolute butcher at third base, but few in the league -- if anyone else -- have as much raw power as Reynolds. He has averaged 36 homers per 162 games throughout his career and at times lets loose with a prodigious upper-deck bomb. In addition to the power, he walks enough to be a valuable asset in the bottom half of a batting order, probably best suited to be a DH.
Gregg, 33, was the Orioles closer for most of last season. He had 22 saves in 29 chances with a 4.37 ERA, 1.64 WHIP and 53 strikeouts in 59 2/3 innings. His 40 walks were most problematic. Gregg has been an effective reliever for the most part -- excepting 2009 and last season -- so he could be a reasonable setup option for teams seeking one this late in camp.
Gregg is set to make $5.8 million this season and there's a club option for 2013. Reynolds will make $7.5 million and also has a club option for 2013.
