The Padres have acquired pitcher Tyson Ross and infielder A.J. Kirby-Jones from the Athletics for infielder Andy Parrino and pitcher Andrew Werner, the teams announced.
The 27-year-old Parrino hit .207/.316/.276 in 138 plate appearances with the Padres last season. He’s expected to compete for the A’s shortstop spot next season, tweeted Susan Slusser of the San Francisco Chronicle.
Werner, 25, made eight starts with the Padres last season. He had a 5.58 ERA and a 4.09 FIP in 40 1/3 innings with the team.
Ross made 13 starts for the A’s last year, posting a 6.50 ERA and a 4.80 FIP in 73 1/3 innings. The 25-year-old Ross was drafted in the second round of the 2008 draft by the Athletics.
Kirby-Jones is the only player in the trade that hasn’t reached the majors. The 24-year-old hit .248/.382/.461 for the Stockton Ports last year. He’s displayed patience throughout his career, but has a knack for putting up big strikeout numbers as well.
