The Padres have placed right-hander Tim Stauffer and outfielder James Darnell on the disabled list.
Stauffer has a right elbow sprain. Although not much is known at this time in terms of severity, the injury is troubling in light of Stauffer's extensive history of arm and shoulder problems. His latest malady comes mere days after recovering from a triceps injury and making his first start of the season.
As for Darnell, he suffered a subluxation of his left shoulder after diving for a ball on Thursday night against the Dodgers. There's no timetable for his return, but the fact that it's his non-throwing shoulder would seem to work in his favor.
To replace Stauffer and Darnell on the roster, the Padres have recalled right-hander Nick Vincent from Triple-A Tucson and claimed lefty Eric Stults off waivers from the White Sox.
Stauffer and Darnell are now the 11th and 12th Padre players currently on the disabled list.
