The Phillies have selected the contract of pitcher Tyson Brummett from Triple-A Lehigh Valley, Todd Zolecki of MLB.com reported Sunday.
With starting pitcher Tyler Cloyd shut down for the season after crossing the 200-inning mark in his last start, the Philies were left scrambling for a starter for Tuesday's game against Washington. Long-relief man B.J. Rosenberg was also a candidate to receive the start.
Brummett owns a 3.20 ERA between Lehigh Valley and Double-A Reading this season, as well as a 2.9 K/BB in 90 innings of work.
