Rays starting pitcher Drew Smyly (shoulder) threw a 35-pitch live batting practice session Thursday at the team's spring complex in Port Charlotte, Fla., according to the Tampa Bay Times.

When ready to pitch in games, manager Kevin Cash is expecting Smyly to need a lengthy rehab assignment.

"He'll go through the full gauntlet of rehab," Cash said.
