After meeting with doctors, Rays starting pitcher Drew Smyly told reporters that the tear in his labrum is not considered a significant tear. He remains confident that he'll be able to pitch through the issue, according to the Tampa Bay Times.

"I obviously have a shoulder problem," Smyly said, per the Tampa Tribune. "After talking with a few of the doctors that I’ve met with, we’ve decided to rehab it. Everyone seems very optimistic that that’s the route to take. It’s not choosing that over surgery. They act like surgery’s not even really an option right now."

Smyly was transferred to the 60-day disabled list Wednesday because of the injury. He will need approximately eight weeks of rehab before rejoining the club.
