Rays pitcher Brandon Gomes allowed one hit over a scoreless ninth inning Tuesday against the Yankees en route to his first save of the season.
Brad Boxberger had pitched on back-to-back days and three of the last four days prior to Tuesday's game, so he was likely unavailable.
Boxberger has been pretty bad down the stretch, posting a 4.79 ERA over the second half, so it would not be surprising if the Rays opted for a closer-by-committee approach over the final weeks of the season, meaning Gomes could be called upon again.
