Pitcher Matt Andriese started for the Rays on Saturday and threw just one inning, sending the Tigers down in order.
Erasmo Ramirez pitched the next 3 2/3 innings for the Rays and allowed one earned run on two hits and struck out six.
Acquired from Seattle on Tuesday, Ramirez surrendered the game's only run -- a home run to designated hitter Victor Martinez.
"I missed one pitch and he made me pay for that," Ramirez said. "But after that pitch I just realized what I have to do, just be myself and be on the same page as the catcher and execute the pitch.''
Rays manager Kevin Cash said Friday that Andriese and Ramirez have both made the Opening Day roster but hasn't decided which pitcher will start the fourth game of the season April 10 at Miami.
