The Red Sox have placed Ryan Sweeney on the disabled list with a toe injury Sunday, the club announced, and as a corresponding move, they've called on Kalish.
Kalish, 24, had shoulder and neck injuries throughout last season and was forced to undergo offseason surgery to get healthy. He has only played in six rehab games and then nine Triple-A games since the Red Sox activated and optioned him. In those nine Triple-A games, Kalish hit .378/.477/.757 with four homers, 10 RBI, 11 runs and three stolen bases.
Kalish played 53 games for the Red Sox back in 2010, hitting .252/.305/.405 with four homers, 24 RBI, 26 runs and 10 stolen bases.
The following players have now seen time in the Red Sox outfield this season: Kalish, Sweeney, Cody Ross, Marlon Byrd, Daniel Nava, Darnell McDonald, Scott Podsednik, Adrian Gonzalez, Jacoby Ellsbury, Jason Repko, Che-Hsuan Lin, Lars Anderson and Nate Spears. And to reiterate: Carl Crawford is currently rehabbing from an elbow injury.
