The Reds have reached a one-year, $2-million deal with free-agent third baseman Jack Hannahan. CBSSports.com's Danny Knobler confirms the original report of FOXSports.com's Ken Rosenthal. A physical is pending.
Last season for the Indians, Hannahan hit .244/.312/.341 with four home runs in 105 games. That slash line is roughly in keeping with his career numbers. Obviously, he's not much with the stick, but Hannahan's defense at third earns him wide praise. Ultimate Zone Rating generally agrees with that assessment.
While Todd Frazier will be the Reds' primary third baseman, Hannahan will likely serve as his defensive caddy and occasionally see some starts against right-handers.
