Reds starting pitcher Jason Marquis' spot in the rotation appears to be on shaky ground following a third straight loss Wednesday at Kansas City, which dropped him to 3-4 with a 6.91 ERA through eight starts.
"Those are tough questions when you are struggling, when you've lost five in a row and during those five games you've had some really poor pitching performances from our starting pitchers," manager Bryan Price said, per MLB.com. "The question is a reasonable question. It isn't insensitive or ill-timed.
"What Jason provides us is important. But it is important also that he performs the way I know he can and the way he did early in the year. We always have to try and put the best team on the field. When he's throwing the way he's capable of throwing, he can be a part of a real good starting rotation."
