Diamondbacks general manager Kevin Towers is likely to pick up the club's 2013 option on closer J.J. Putz, according to MLB.com's Steve Gilbert.
If the option is exercised, Putz will make $6.5 million in 2013. If not, the Diamondbacks will owe Putz a $1.5 million buyout.
Putz is 3-6 with a 2.43 ERA and 73 saves while recording just seven blown saves since joining the Diamondbacks on a free-agent deal before the 2011 season. He has posted the best statistics of his career with Arizona and is amenable to finishing his career with the team.
