The Royals have a short list of players to sell at the deadline: Jonathan Broxton, Jeff Francoeur, Yuniesky Betancourt and Jose Mijares, Ken Rosenthal of Fox Sports reported Monday.
With the Royals sporting a poor starting rotation and a young and promising core in both the lineup and bullpen, they are left with little veteran talent to sell. Broxton is likely to draw the biggest return, as he owns a 2.34 ERA (despite a 3.44 FIP) and has saved 22 games in 26 chances.
Mijares has a 1.72 ERA and could draw interest as a left-handed specialist. Francoeur and Betancourt are veteran names but have little on-field value beyond that; both have on-base percentages well below .300 this season.
