After signing Jeff Keppinger to a three-year contract, the White Sox are interested in signing left-handed third baseman Jack Hannahan, Scott Merkin of MLB.com reported Wednesday.
Keppinger will ostensibly be the starting third baseman for the White Sox with his new long-term contract. However, Keppinger has struggled against right-handers over his career, hitting just .269/.321/.358 in 1918 plate appearances.
Hannahan could form the left-handed side of a platoon. However, he's a better fielder than a hitter, and even against righties he only owns a career .233/.318/.363 line in more than 1,200 plate appearances. Perhaps the White Sox believe their homer-friendly park can unlock some of Hannahan's power -- he's spent his entire career in pitcher-friendly parks (Oakland, Seattle, Cleveland).
