Two Rays outfielders are nearing a return from injury.
- Matt Joyce could be activated in time for this weekend's series against Cleveland, according to Joe Smith of the Tampa Bay Times. Joyce was enjoying a career year at the plate before he went down with an oblique injury in June. His batting average (.279), on-base percentage (.387) and slugging percentage (.512) would all be career highs.
- Sam Fuld is slated to begin a rehab assignment this week, Smith also reports. Fuld has yet to play a single game for the Rays this season due to a wrist injury and would likely need the maximum 20-day assignment before joining the club. Fuld made a big impact early last season, particularly with his glove, but he finished with a lacking .240/.313/.360 triple-slash line. As such, he will likely serve as a defensive replacement upon his return to action.
