The Bridgeport Bluefish of the independent Atlantic League have landed themselves a new guest manager, and this one is a seven-time Cy Young award winner.

Tuesday afternoon the Bluefish announced Roger Clemens will serve as the team's guest manager on Friday, August 5. Clemens joins Pete Rose, Paul O'Neill, and Jennie Finch as Bridgeport guest managers. Finch became the first female manager in pro baseball history back in May.

"We are thrilled to have someone of such high caliber as Roger Clemens join us at The Ballpark at Harbor Yard," said Bluefish GM Jamie Toole in a statement. "We encourage everyone to come out on August 5 and experience this special occasion."

Independent and minor league teams are always looking for clever promotions to bring fans to the ballpark, and the Bluefish have come up with this guest manager series. It's a pretty neat idea.

Clemens, now 53, recently signed up for an amateur tournament in Kansas with a bunch of former big league players. Their team, the Kansas Stars, are scheduled to play their first game on August 8. It seems Clemens will manage one day and pitch a few days later.

Among the former MLB players on the Bluefish roster are Blake Beavan, David Carpenter, Jose Veras, and Endy Chavez.
