Last week, Jon Heyman of CBSSports.com reported Royals right fielder Jeff Franceour is an early trade candidate due to Wil Myers' big minor-league numbers. Since then, Myers has only gotten better.
After hitting his 24th minor-league home run of the season Saturday night (13 in Double-A, 11 in Triple-A), Myers went 4-for-5 with a double Sunday (MiLB.com).
So that means Myers is now hitting .331/.402/.703 with seven doubles, two triples, 11 homers, 31 RBI and 27 runs in 31 games at Triple-A this season.
Of course, the Royals are soon to have a bit of an outfield logjam in front of Myers. Opening-day centerfield starter Lorenzo Cain has been injured most of the season, but he's reportedly nearing a minor-league rehab stint. His return would leave the Royals with a set outfield of Alex Gordon, Cain and Jeff Francoeur with Jarrod Dyson or Mitch Maier serving as the fourth outfielder. In Billy Butler, the Royals have an everyday DH, too. Obviously Myers isn't going to be promoted to sit on the bench.
And that's where the potential Francoeur trade comes in. Myers began the season as a 21-year-old in Double-A ranked as a top 15 prospect in all of baseball. And now he is showing he could be major-league ready to join the Royals' already-in-progress youth movement. The more he hits, the more the Royals should be motivated to get him on board in any way they can.
