And then there's this: Ryan Dempster is hurt. He's been placed on the disabled list with a strained quad, the Cubs announced Saturday. Outfielder Tony Campana has been recalled as a corresponding move, which is interesting because of the Marlon Byrd trade rumor. Dempster was slated to start Sunday and Randy Wells is reportedly in Chicago preparing to make that start. So is Campana only coming up for one day? Unlikely. Instead, bet on the Cubs trading Byrd and then replacing him on the roster with Wells.
Dempster, 34, has been one of the few bright spots for the Cubs this year. He has a sparkling 1.33 ERA, 0.93 WHIP and leads the NL with 23 strikeouts. Of course, he's gotten no help from his teammates, as he is 0-1 and the Cubs have lost all three of his starts.
Meanwhile, Wells has a 9.42 ERA and 1.54 WHIP through three starts in Triple-A.
So, yeah, the hits just keep on coming for the Cubs.
