The Twins have agreed to a two-year, $7 million contract extension with catcher/first baseman/designated hitter/right fielder Ryan Doumit, the club announced in a press release Friday afternoon. They signed Doumit to a one-year, $3 million contract this past offseason.
Doumit, 31, is hitting .271/.332/.443 with seven homers, 32 RBI and 22 runs scored this season. His ability to fit in several spots, specifically defensively for Joe Mauer and Justin Morneau, has been helpful for the Twins this season. His .775 OPS ranks fourth on the team.
The Twins enter Friday night 30-44 on the season, which is the worst record in the American League. They are 10 games out in the AL Central.
