After missing about a month with a left knee sprain, Rays left fielder and leadoff hitter Desmond Jennings is back.
The Tampa Bay Times reports that Jennings has been activated from the disabled list and is expected to be in the lineup Tuesday night against Andy Pettitte and the Yankees.
On the season, the 25-year-old Jennings is batting .265/.333/.398, which is good for an OPS+ of 108. He also has eight stolen bases in nine attempts.
Jennings return means that Rays will no longer be forced to make Hideki Matsui wear a glove. However, in order to make room for Jennings on the roster, the Rays have demoted the famously persevering Rich Thompson.
