If Tigers starting pitcher Justin Verlander is able to throw more than 60 pitches during a simulated game Wednesday, he could be a candidate to return to the rotation Tuesday against the Yankees, according to the Detroit Free Press.

Although, if he throws less than 60 pitches, it could be tough to start him with a 75-pitch limit, manager Brad Ausmus said. The Tigers are expected to make a decision on Verlander's status Thursday.

Verlander began the season on the 15-day disabled list due to a right triceps strain.
