The Minnesota Twins have placed closer Matt Capps on the 15-day disabled list with inflammation in his right shoulder, the club announced in a press release Monday afternoon. As a corresponding move, left-handed reliever Tyler Robertson was recalled from Triple-A Rochester.
The shoulder has been an issue for Capps for most of the season. He was trying to pitch through the discomfort, but it was said to be affecting his performance.
In Capps' absence, the Twins could turn to Glen Perkins or Jared Burton to close games. Perkins has two saves this year while Burton has one. Each is enjoying a solid campaign.
Capps, 28, has converted 14 of his 15 save chances with a 3.42 ERA, 1.06 WHIP and 16 strikeouts in 26 1/3 innings.
