Voting for the 83rd All-Star Game, which goes down July 10th in Kansas City's Kauffman Stadium, continues. Here's how the AL balloting stands as of Monday ...
As you can see, Josh Hamilton is closing in on four million total votes, and we've got a number of close races to monitor. Nelson Cruz doesn't deserve to be a starting outfielder, and it's good that Jose Bautista and Adam Jones are closing in on him. Paul Konerko should be the starter at first base, and Mike Napoli, while enjoying a solid year, isn't the best choice at catcher. Elvis Andrus is a better overall player than Derek Jeter these days, but it's hard to argue with Jeter's star power. (This is, after all, a game of stars.) Will Jason Kipnis continue making up ground in what's a strong field of AL second basemen?
Overall, not a bad job by AL voters, but there are a couple of obvious misplays to be found. There's still time, though, as in-stadium voting goes through June 22 and online balloting runs through June 28.
