The Yankees and Athletics played a five-hour, 43-minute game Saturday afternoon. It was an unbelievably entertaining game, which included 18 total pitchers, 31 hits, 19 runs and three errors, including this one, giving the Yankees a win:
Yes, that's a walkoff error on A's first baseman Brandon Moss. That doesn't even come close to providing all the craziness in extra innings, though.
Two hitters earlier, Alex Rodriguez hit what should have been a walkoff single, but pinch-runner Melky Mesa -- a rookie pinch-runner making his big-league debut -- stumbled, missed third base and then had to circle back to third instead of scoring. Here's that play:
And that was only in the 14th inning. In the 13th, the A's jumped out to a four-run lead with a Jonny Gomes two-run homer and solo shots by Yoenis Cespedes and Chris Carter. The Yankees roared back with a rally in the bottom half of the frame, capped by Raul Ibanez's dramatic, game-tying home run -- his second homer of the game.
As I said in the headline, it was a wild one. Thus, I guess it was only fitting a walkoff error finally concluded it.
