White Sox starting pitcher John Danks will be placed on the disabled list before Friday's game against the Indians because of discomfort in his left shoulder, beat writers of the club are reporting (including Scott Merkin of MLB.com).
Danks told reporters he felt like he could battle through the pain and make his scheduled start, but instead he's hitting the DL as a precautionary measure.
As a corresponding move, the White Sox are going to recall Jose Quintana to make the Friday start. Quintana, 23, is 1-3 with a 2.77 ERA, 1.17 WHIP and 41 strikeouts in nine Triple-A starts this season.
Danks, 27, is 3-4 with a 5.70 ERA, 1.49 WHIP and 30 strikeouts in 53 2/3 innings this season. He reportedly first felt the pain during his last start (via chicagotribune.com), a win over the Cubs this past Saturday.
