  • Rangers' Drew Stubbs: Inks minor-league deal with Rangers

Stubbs signed a minor-league contract with the Rangers on Tuesday.

After being signed, Stubbs was assigned to Triple-A Round Rock. Stubbs opened the season in the majors with the Giants and played in 10 games, during which he went 2-for-22 (.091). Stubbs has plenty of major-league experience and has a career batting average of .242, but hasn't hit above .225 since 2014.

  • Giants' Drew Stubbs: DFA'd by Giants

Stubbs was designated for assignment by the Giants on Saturday, Alex Pavlovic of NBC Sports Bay Area reports.

Stubbs was just 2-for-22 (.091) through 10 games with the Giants before being ousted off the roster. The move made room for Justin Ruggiano, whose contract was purchased from Triple-A on Saturday. Given his major-league experience, Stubbs could draw some interest on waivers.

  • Giants' Drew Stubbs: Out of lineup Sunday

Stubbs is out of the lineup Sunday against the Padres, Ron Kroichick of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Stubbs had started five of his first six games in a Giants uniform, but after Stubbs went 2-for-15 with five strikeouts in those contests, manager Bruce Bochy will give Gorkys Hernandez a spin in center field. It's likely that Bochy will simply ride the hot bat between the two center fielders until Denard Span (shoulder) returns from the disabled list.

  • Giants' Drew Stubbs: Returning to majors

Stubbs had his contract purchased from Triple-A Sacramento on Monday, John Shea of the San Francisco Chronicle reports.

Stubbs was added to the Giants to take the roster spot of Chris Marrero, who was DFA'd earlier Monday after hitting just .132 through 15 games (38 at-bats). He's batting eighth and playing center field for Monday's contest against the Dodgers, and he could see plenty of playing time in the near future given the Giants' injury-plagued outfield.

  • Giants' Drew Stubbs: Could get call to majors soon

With Denard Span (shoulder) in danger of landing on the disabled list, Stubbs would be the favorite to take his place on the roster, Alex Pavlovic of CSN Bay Area reports.

The 32-year-old is having a strong start to the season with Triple-A Sacramento, slashing .265/.375/.471 with two home runs and a steal in 40 plate appearances. Stubbs has always possessed a fantasy-friendly skill set, so he could enter the equation as a short-term option in deep leagues if he does get the call to the majors.
