Red Sox's Justin Maxwell: Signs minor league contract with Red Sox on Friday
Maxwell signed a minor league contract with the Red Sox on Friday, Tim Britton of the Providence Journal reports.
Maxwell was released by the Marlins on Tuesday after posting a .227 batting average this spring. There isn't a spot for him on the major league roster, so he'll likely head to Triple-A Pawtucket to act as organizational outfield depth.

Justin Maxwell: Granted release
Maxwell has been granted his release from the Marlins, Joe Frisaro of MLB.com reports.
Coming off a poor season with San Francisco, the 32-year-old Maxwell posted a .227/.320/.545 slash line in 22 at-bats in the Grapefruit League this spring. He'll likely re-sign with the Marlins in a few days if he can't locate a team that wants him on the Opening Day roster.

Marlins' Justin Maxwell: Signs with Marlins
Maxwell agreed to a minor league contract with the Marlins on Monday, Matt Eddy of Baseball America reports.
Maxwell struggled mightily at the plate with the Giants this season, slashing .209/.275/.341 in 100 games, leading to his eventual removal from the team's 40-man roster in September. He has never enjoyed too much success at the major league level outside of slugging 18 homers in 2012, but he could have a chance to make the big league roster out of spring training.
